Project: Edvard Meets Alex Moxie

My FIRST exhibit piece! I am 'Scream'ing with excitement just like the figure :)  This was a school project turned so much more; Edvard Munch - Alexandra VanSickel style. As you can see from the below picture, a lot went into this. I am greatly proud of the end result. I will definitely post about the exhibit when it takes place :)

This was an interesting project. My mom gave me these old shoes. Quite ugly - YES! But I loved the little strappy thing on the top. SO. I decided to cut out the lip, only leaving the bottom half of it.

These are what the sunglasses were used for. Found some cool art pictures and mod podged them on. Then used the E6000 to glue the suckers on. You can also see the zipper lining I sewed on. Not easy. Perfect world would have been black zipper with gold metal, but I used what I had

These pieces were from a while back. So I don't have a "before" picture. But, to give you a visual - imagine you walk into a church coffee shop - you would see the old pictures on the wall. I was going to donate them, but realized it was the perfect surface for collaging.

 I basically selected all my favorite pieces of art pictures that I had found over the years and podged them on. Anyone who has been to my apartment has seen these before.

Project: Shirt to Pillow Transformation

Project for my momma. My mom went on vacation up the coast a while back. She came back with this way cute t-shirt; great fabric, but realllly huge. It had sentimental value because she has three sisters, loves the coast and her last name is "Bunn." She asked me to make it into a pillow. Initially I was just going to cute the front and back and sew up the edges - fairly simple. Then I decided to take it a step further. I loved the polka-dots on the pelicans, so I thought I'd roll with it. 

Supplies: 

Old t-shirt

Fabric

Sewing machine

Zipper (optional)
Pillow stuffing (I bought a newer looking pillow from Goodwill for $1.00)

Here is the shirt, with the center part cut out (I forgot to take a picture of the original shirt).

  

Then, I made sure to cut it to the same measurements. I cut out strips of the polka-dot for each side - 3" plus a 1/2" allowance on each side of the strip (probably a bit much, but I didn't wanna take any chances). 

I decided to add a zipper because I am stuffing challenged.

Needless to say, she was quite pleased and tickled with how it turned out.

My sister Kirby and I have spent ample amounts of time trying to figure out what to do with this coat. It has the cutest color patterns, but has always fit weird and been too big! After much consideration I thought I'd try a purse...despite my lack of experience. Aye!

So here's the original coat...

Then I pretty much butchered it...

You can kinda see in the pictures below what I did. The original elastic bottom of the coat was doubled together  then used as the bottom support of the purse. The original zipper is actually now on the size, but I added a zipper on the top as well. The pockets of the coat are on each side of the purse. The hood lining was used as the strap. I also added a block of the polka-dots on the side because I wanted the pattern to be more visible.

             

Not bad for my first try!

This is the second zipper headband I've made and it was for a gift for a dear friend. I forgot to take pics before I sent it off, but Melissa was able to model it quite spectacularly.

Project: Couch Pillows

Project: Couch Pillows

We got a couch for about $100 for our new apartment, but the pillows were horrific. I watched a "pocket pillowcase" tutorial and was able to use the filling from the old pillows. The floral fabric was reversible (shiny grey and floral grey), so I used that and a turquoise for the color pallet to match the dull grey.

Project: Headboard #1

This was my first headboard project. Our church has a yearly Junk-a-tique that has more awesome stuff than one can fathom. I found this headboard for $10. There was like 7 of them and I should have bought them all. As you can see I had to sand it down to bare bones. Painted then lined with my favorite fabric. This fabric was also used at our wedding as the portrait studio backdrop (re-using is always great in crafty world). This was NOT what I had in mind originally but I love how it turned out.
